Payment Options

There are a number of ways to make property tax payments to the City of Chelsea:

Credit Card or Electronic CheckThe City offers the ability to make credit/debit card or e-check payments online through a secure, third party provider—Invoice Cloud.  A convenience fee will be applied at checkout. 

Pay Tax Bill Online

To pay taxes online, be sure to have the property owner's last name or address available.

PhoneThe City offers the ability to make credit/debit card or e-check payments by calling (844) 937-0135.  A convenience fee will be applied at checkout.

To pay taxes by phone, be sure to have the property’s parcel number available.

MailEnvelopes should be addressed to the attention of the City Treasurer at: 305 S. Main St., Suite 100, Chelsea, MI 48118

Drop BoxThere is a drop box located at the curb towards the rear of the city office for tax and water/sewer payments (checks only please, no cash.) We ask that you put your check and top portion of the bill in an envelope before putting in the drop box.

In PersonVisit the City Offices during normal business hours. The City can accept cash and check only—credit card payments can only be taken online—see instructions below.

Online Access


Make Online Tax or Utility PaymentsWithin the City’s online tax and utility system, you also have the option to make a payment online. This service is available through a secure, third party vendor—Invoice Cloud.  If you choose to make a payment online, you will launch another Internet window for secure payment access.

Please note that Invoice Cloud charges a convenience fee to the user for each payment made online. The amount of the fee will be shown to you at checkout. This is not a City fee, only the tax or utility payment amount is passed on to the City. The convenience fee is paid directly to Invoice Cloud for use of their secure system.

Benefits of using the online payment service include:

  • Ability to view and pay tax or utility bills online 24 hours a day/7 days a week (a convenience fee will be applied)
  • Schedule payments for a later date
  • Sign up for autopay with a credit/debit card or e-check (a convenience fee will be applied)
  • Bill reminders via email
  • Ability to save payment information
  • Receive text notifications and pay by text

Credit Card or Electronic CheckInvoice Cloud allows for the use of a credit/debit card or electronic check for online payments.

Tax Payments

  • Credit/debit card - 3.25% of the transaction amount or $2.95, whichever is higher
  • Electronic check - $2.95 per transaction
Utility Payments

  • Credit/debit card - $4.95 per transaction; $0.95 transaction fee for AutoPay
  • Electronic check - $2.95 per transaction
