Parks & Recreation

On June 2, 2014, the City of Chelsea established a Parks and Recreation Steering Committee charged with updating the City's Park and Recreation Plan.  A revision to General Code Ordinance Chapter 2, Article IV, Division 2 was adopted by City Council on December 18, 2017 to update the current ordinance, eliminate sections that are no longer necessary and establish the Parks and Recreation Commission.  The Michigan State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) requires that a community have in place a five-year recreation plan with its Grants and Management division to obtain certain financial assistance using recreation grants.  The DNR recommends incorporating the Parks and Recreation plan with a municipality's comprehensive master plan.

The City of Chelsea now has in place a Parks and Recreation Plan that is referenced in the comprehensive master plan currently under revision by the City's Planning Commission.  The Parks and Recreation Steering Committee meets regularly to develop and initiate plans to move forward on various goals established in the Parks and Recreation plan.
